Accused of supplying intelligence to the West, Bettina is arrested in 1984 and interrogated daily by a young Stasi officer named Jan. They develop feelings for each other – feelings they can hardly admit to themselves, let alone anyone else – but are separated when Bettina is sent to prison. Many years later, Bettina tracks down Jan, stirring up conflicting emotions for both of them.
