A few very special insect species can be found around the Feldberg Lakes. Otters and other water creatures also live here, and the full moon seems to have a special effect on them.

The meadows around the Feldberg Lakes are home to an enormous variety of floral and fauna. While deer, foxes, and hares live on land, predatory and non-predatory fish can be found underwater, where the natural balance is being threatened by anglers.

The condition of the aquatic habitat is checked at regular intervals by conservationists and some interesting discoveries have already been made. Meanwhile, the ospreys are gradually training their young to become independent.

The allure of the Feldberg Lakes with their clear, fresh water was described many years ago by the writer Hans Fallada. In the last part of this series, you can see how professional conservationists and volunteers are helping to preserve these impressive waters.
