Accused of supplying intelligence to the West, Bettina is arrested in 1984 and interrogated daily by a young Stasi officer named Jan. They develop feelings for each other – feelings they can hardly admit to themselves, let alone anyone else – but are separated when Bettina is sent to prison. Many years later, Bettina tracks down Jan, stirring up conflicting emotions for both of them.
Jan, now an accountant, receives a letter from Bettina regarding the eight months she spent in prison in 1985.
Bettina is in poor condition due to bad conditions and constant interrogation. However, her interrogator seems to also have some empathy.
