In English, shorter adjectives are compared by adding certain endings ("green," "greener," "greenest"), while longer adjectives require the words "more" and "most" ("helpful," "more helpful," "most helpful"). In German, the rules are quite different and the endings are always used. Moreover, the same forms are used as both adjectives and adverbs.
